A Custom Cylinder Batch Reaches Production Completion
Elephant Machinery has completed production of a batch of custom high-pressure tie-rod hydraulic cylinders, finished in the desert armor color requested by the customer. The project brings together two parts of cylinder customization: a mechanical configuration suited to the customer’s requirements and an exterior finish specified as part of the order.
The completed cylinders are shown arranged on foam-covered pallets in our workshop. Their matching cylinder bodies, mounting features and painted rod-end fittings provide a close look at the finished batch.

Custom Design Extends to the Mounting Details
The photographs show external tie rods connecting the end blocks, projecting side trunnions and substantial rod-end eye fittings with visible bushings. These details make the installation interfaces a prominent part of this project.
For an equipment manufacturer, a custom hydraulic cylinder needs to fit the machine as well as meet its operating requirements. Mounting position, available installation space and the connection between the piston rod and the driven component all need to be considered together.
Our custom hydraulic cylinder manufacturing services provide a route to discuss these requirements alongside bore, stroke, working pressure, port arrangement and operating conditions. A drawing or installation sketch helps define the interfaces before the design is finalized.

The close-up shows how the painted exterior meets the exposed rod, trunnion and rod-end bushing surfaces.

Side-by-side assemblies provide a wider view of the mounting features and rod-end connections.
Our Painting Standard: Primer Followed by Two Topcoats
The customer specified a desert armor color for this batch. To achieve the requested finish, our painting standard requires primer first, followed by two separate coats of exterior finish paint.
The sequence is an explicit part of the coating requirement:
- Apply the primer. This establishes the base layer beneath the finish paint.
- Apply the first topcoat. This begins the exterior color coverage.
- Apply the second topcoat. This completes the specified two-coat finish over the primer.
For us, confirming a paint color also means confirming how that finish will be applied. The primer and both topcoats are part of the requirement for this order.
The finished photographs show the desert-colored coating across the barrels, end blocks, external tie rods and rod-end fittings. The exposed piston rods, trunnion journals and inner bushing surfaces remain visibly metallic, allowing customers to see the distinction between the painted exterior and the mechanical interfaces.

Several completed cylinders show the exterior finish from different angles.

The view from the rear shows the finish on the end blocks, tie rods and external fasteners.

Rows of completed assemblies show the matching exterior color across the batch.

An additional workshop view shows the cylinder bodies, mounting details and finished rod-end fittings.
Define the Finish Alongside the Cylinder Specification
This completed batch illustrates why surface finish belongs in the custom cylinder discussion from the beginning. A clear specification connects the mechanical design with the customer’s expectations for the finished assembly.
